James Dondero is the founder and principal of NexPoint, a premier alternative investment platform with over 30 years of experience in credit, equity, real estate, and private equity markets. Under his leadership, NexPoint offers a diverse suite of solutions across asset classes—including REITs, interval funds, credit, equity, and business development companies—to meet evolving investor needs.

James has expanded NexPoint into a network of specialized businesses. He serves as President and Chairman of NexPoint Real Estate Finance, acts as CEO for NexPoint Hospitality Trust, and leads NexPoint Residential Trust as President and Chairman. Additionally, he is Chairman and majority owner of NexBank Capital Inc., which provides institutional, commercial, and mortgage banking services.

A committed philanthropist, James is passionate about advancing education and strengthening his community. He sits on the Executive Board of SMU’s Cox School of Business, where he founded the NexPoint Tower Scholars Program, and he contributes to the Executive Advisory Council for the George W. Bush Presidential Center. James also supports several Dallas-based organizations.

He graduated with high honors from the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce with a dual major in accounting and finance and is a distinguished member of Beta Gamma Sigma and Beta Alpha Psi.
