About Joe Shoen
Edward Joseph “Joe” Shoen has been the President, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of U-Haul Holding Company since the late 1980s, overseeing the expansion and operations of U-Haul International. Born on March 28, 1949, in Phoenix, Arizona, he earned a Bachelor of Arts from the College of the Holy Cross and an MBA from Harvard Business School, where he authored a thesis on self-storage businesses. He later obtained a Juris Doctor from Arizona State University’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law.
In the late 1980s, following a contentious leadership battle, Shoen assumed control of U-Haul, the company founded by his father, Leonard Shoen.
